Barnstable Wreck-Fest: Seven Hurt in Three Separate Saturday Crashes! [HN Photos]

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening, multiple Barnstable Police squad cars and three Hyannis Fire Department ambulances responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 132 at the entrance to the Festival Plaza in Hyannis. A total of three patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. HN spoke with the two female occupants of one of the vehicles. They had initially walked away from the scene and stood about 50 yards from the intersection, appearing confused. They spoke briefly with HN in broken English and Creole, asking something indiscernible — something about them having had the green light. A patrolman later spoke with the women, apparently explaining that they would have needed a green arrow at this particular intersection. They looked worried. The officer reassured them that it was an accident and that they would eventually be free to leave (in other words, they wouldn’t be arrested). HN photographed a sign that apparently read, “LEFT TURN YIELD ON GREEN.” It was difficult to read, as some of the black lettering was missing. The patrolman told the women he would look into possible video footage of the crash. The women were cooperative and polite. It remains uncertain who is “at fault” in the particular traffic accident. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. Traffic was temporarily diverted around the area while responders worked the crash scene.

HN Note: It was a busy day for crashes in the Town of Barnstable Saturday. According to a police official, there were a total of eight motor vehicle accident investigations in the Town of Barnstable on Saturday. The last AC# number read over the radio was 1098, which means there have been roughly 1098 motor vehicle accident investigations in the Town of Barnstable thus far in 2025.
Please be extra careful driving out there, people. Drive defensively and give your full attention to what’s happening around you on the roadway. Please drive sober… and PLEASE put the cellphones down until you get where you’re going. Please stay safe! I’d rather not have to go to any of these damn crashes…
God bless and have a splendiferous Sunday!
