HYANNIS – A man was airlifted with 2nd and 3rd degree burns after his home caught fire earlier this evening, according to Lt. Dave Webb of the Hyannis Fire Department.
At about 5:40, firefighters responded to 44 Betty’s Pond Road after receiving a 911 call, as neighbors saw flames and reportedly went to aid of the bedridden man, entering the home and pulling him from the blaze. The man was out of the house and down in the roadway as the first Hyannis Firefighters arrived on scene.
An ambulance from the Yarmouth Fire Department brought the man to Barnstable Municiple Airport and he was then airlifted via helicopter to a Boston area burn center, according to sources…
The man was home alone at the time of the fire. There were also no pets inside the residence.
An apartment attached to a larger home was heavily damaged from the flames and overhaul.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
