BOURNE – Firefighters were called to 1 Old Head of the Bay Road around midnight. The first firefighters on scene noticed some flames up on the roof line which had apparently extended from what was initially a chimney fire. As as you will hear in a brief interview with Acting Assistant Fire Chief David Pelonzi, the fire spread down into the structure. All three occupants were able to get out safely on their own. It was a tricky fire and at one point the chimney started to lean and firefighters had to remove it so it wouldn’t fall on anyone. A second ladder truck arrived from Onset and crews were able to confine the fire, saving most of the structure. About 20 firefighters worked the structure fire from shortly after midnight until about 3:30 a.m., when the last of the firefighters had cleared the scene. No firefighters or occupants were injured.
