BOURNE – [DEVELOPING] – A driver is in custody after leading police on a high speed pursuit and then a foot chase after a crash at around 2:30 a.m, this morning…
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the pursuit began in the area of “Grandma’s Rotary” in Bourne when a state trooper reported a vehicle driving recklessly and failing to pull over for him.
Other troopers and police from local area departments joined in the pursuit, which made its way onto Route 25 and then onto Route 195 east, with speeds exceeding 110 MPH.
A pursuing trooper radioed ahead regarding the possibility of setting up spike strips. Spike strips were successfully deployed on Route 195 prior to Exit 19, and the tires of the fleeing vehicle were deflated.
A trooper announced some sort of “code 16,” or crash, just west of Exit 19 in the area of the Mattapoisett River. There were at least three passengers in the vehicle. A male and a female were quickly detained while the driver took off on foot into the nearby woods. After a foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody.
All occupants of the suspect vehicle were reportedly accounted for and there were no serious injuries, aside from the female becoming sick to her stomach in the back of one of the police cruisers.
[DEVELOPING] HN will provide official updates as they become available… The following HN Video begins shortly after the driver was taken into custody.
