UPDATED: Officers catch up to suspect who allegedly fled earlier traffic stop… [HN VIDEO]

UPDATE: Steven A. Roderick, age 18, of Bourne, had an active Default Warrant when he allegedly failed to stop for police this past Wednesday morning, 8/8/2018.
According to the Barnstable Police, Roderick allegedly drove away from a traffic stop early Wednesday morning at 3:45 AM. He was being stopped for a suspended registration. When the officer approached, Roderick allegedly looked away and deliberately drove away on Mulberry Street.
The officer yelled for him to stop, quickly returned to his cruiser and tried to follow, but was unable to locate the fleeing vehicle in the densely populated neighborhood.
Additional patrol units attempted to set up a perimeter and search of the area, but they were unable to locate the fleeing suspect.
Officers investigated and were able to identify the suspect as Steven Roderick.
According to the police report, at about 5:50 AM, an alert Barnstable Patrolman observed the suspect, who also had an outstanding Default Warrant, enter a vehicle driven by a female in the area of the Cumberland Farm on Bearses Way. The patrolman also observed the suspect laying low and reclining the car seat.
The patrolman carefully followed the suspect vehicle, alerting other cruisers of his direction of travel so sufficient backup could to move into position.
As can be seen in the following HN Video, patrol units were able to stop and box in the vehicle at the intersection of Strawberry Hill Road and West Main Street.
According to the report, the suspect began to struggle with officers and was taken to the ground in the middle of the street. He allegedly continue to thrash and ignored the officers’ commands, and was given a direct “drive stun” with a Taser until officers finally were able to gain control.
Aside from the Default Warrant, Roderick was also charged with Resisting Arrest, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a MV with a Suspended Registration, and Failure to Stop for Police.
Roderick was arraigned later in the morning and bail was set at $1000. It’s uncertain whether he made bail or not…

HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, Barnstable Police Officers caught up to a suspect they had been looking for earlier this morning.
At about 4:00 AM, a Barnstable Patrolman was initiating a traffic stop for motor vehicle violations in the area of Winter Street and Mulberry Street when the operator shut his lights off and took off from the stop.
The officer had a good description of the suspect and vehicle, and did not need to get involved a pursuit in the thickly settled neighborhood. But that didn’t stop officers from saturating the area and setting up a perimeter…
After a period of time, officers investigated and learned the name of a suspect, a “light skin” black male… A photo was soon sent out to area cruisers.
Shortly after 6:00 AM this morning, a patrolman recognized the suspect traveling as a passenger in a different vehicle in the area of Bearses Way and Pitchers Way. He began to carefully follow the vehicle while other cruisers in the area moved into position…
