UPDATED: Shot fired at Keyes Beach… suspect caught nearby… with wad of cash… [VIDEO OF ARREST]
Hyannis – At about 7pm, Barnstable Police responded to Keyes Beach (also known as Sea Street Beach) after a resident called stating there was a gunshot…

A description was put out of the suspect and suspect vehicle…
Patrolman Troy Perry stopped a pickup just blocks away on Seabrook Road…
The suspect was placed in handcuffs and detained…
A search of the suspect yielded a wad of cash, but no gun… police are still searching for the handgun…

Police spoke with eyewitnesses back at the beach… they also caught up to and pulled over a male and female believed to be the victims… the victims appeared to have been fishing at the time of the incident…
The suspect, according to radio transmissions, had previous gun charges… he was transported back to BPD Headquarters…
Police were on scene searching for the handgun hours after the incident…

UPDATE ~ 5/11, 1pm ~ Hyannis News sources identified the suspect in above shooting as 21-year-old William Benton… Benton is no stranger to gun charges and the court… according to one HN source, Benton currently has matters in front of the court… including another A&B DW charge, Intimidation of a Witness, and Threat to Commit Murder… he is reportedly scheduled for trial this coming June…
UPDATE ~ 5/11, 8:55am ~ According Sergeant Riley of the BPD, the suspect was charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Firearm Without a License, and Discharge of a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling… the suspect was released on $10,000 bail at approximately 4am this morning… Police are waiting for Detectives to give go-ahead before officially releasing suspect’s name…
Also of note: Per police radio transmissions, at about 4am, police sent a patrol car out to at least one residence to notify witnesses of the suspect’s release on bail…
UPDATE ~ 5/10, 11pm ~ According to another news source, the suspect, age 21, will be charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon…
