BARNSTABLE – A Yarmouth man pleaded guilty to a felony child pornography charge in District Court today.
Daniel Greelish, age 34, of South Yarmouth pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
Greelish was arrested when detectives served a search warrant at his 502 Winslow Gray address in South Yarmouth back on July 15. He was initially charged with Dissemination of Child Pornography.
Today’s appearance was marked up as a ‘probable cause hearing’ looking into the allegation of the distribution of material showing a child in a sexual act, but ended when the defendant pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of Possession of Child Pornography.
An investigation initially involving Barnstable Police Detectives focused on internet activity and a computer at 502 Winslow Gray Road.
Because of today’s guilty plea to Possession of Child Pornography, Greelish will be on probation until November of 2019.
As a condition of his probation, Greelish will have to register as a sex offender. Other conditions include providing a DNA sample, no internet access, and no contact with children under the age of 16.
Greelish will also not be allowed contact with his own children under the age of 16. (However, that particular condition may be overruled by the probate court at a later date…)
Today’s guilty plea gives closure to an investigation which began this past April.
Barnstable Police Detectives have been very proactive in investigating Cape Cod internet crimes related to child pornography. This past June, Barnstable Police played an important role in an investigation that led to child pornography charges against a retired pediatrician residing in Mashpee.
