Brewster man suffered stab wounds as cops dealt with report of man with gun at Hyannis beach… alleged “stabber” in custody… another charged with unlawfully possessing gun…
The following is the actual Barnstable Police press statement:
On August 14, 2018 Barnstable Police arrested a Centerville man in connection with a stabbing at Keyes Beach in Hyannis.
At about 5:20 pm on Sunday August 12th, Barnstable Police were dispatched to Keyes Beach after receiving a report of a man with a gun.
Arriving officers discovered a large party, approx.150-200 people, in the beach
picnic area.
Several people were quickly packing up a make-shift bar and D.J. booth after what witnesses said was an altercation between a few individuals who had since departed.
As the group dispersed, Barnstable Police were notified of a stabbing victim who arrived at Cape Cod Hospital.
The victim, a 22-year-old Brewster man, suffered three stab wounds to his back and shoulder.
An investigation into the stabbing led detectives to identify 31-year-old Damion Fray of Centerville as a suspect.
Fray was surveilled two days later, before being stopped in a motor vehicle in Dennis where he was placed under arrest.
Fray was charged with Assault & Battery by Dangerous Weapon, Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, and Assault & Battery causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Subsequent to Fray’s arrest, a search warrant was obtained for his Centerville residence and was executed on Wednesday, August 15th.
During the search, investigators located a loaded Lugar 9mm handgun along with a supply of ammunition.
A cohabiter of the home, 46-year-old Neil Woolery, was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Fray appeared in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday and was ordered held pending a dangerous hearing on Monday, August 20, 2018.
Woolery appeared in Barnstable District Court on Wednesday and was held on $1,000 cash bail.
The stabbing victim spent 2-3 days at Cape Cod Hospital recovering from his injuries, and has since been discharged.
