*** WATCH *** CENTERVILLE STABBING INVESTIGATION EXTENDS LATE INTO THE NIGHT [NEW DETAILS]
BPD UPDATE – 5/7/24:
On Tuesday May 7, 2024, at approximately 3:50pm, the Barnstable Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a 62 year old male who had been stabbed multiple times at a residence on Old Stage Road in Centerville. Upon arrival the 24 year old male suspect, who is known to the victim, was identified and taken into custody. The victim was transported via MedFlight to a Rhode Island hospital for life threatening injuries. This incident was not random and is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Cape & Islands Detective Unit.
The suspect was ordered held without bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday May 8, 2024 at Barnstable District Court on the for the following charges:
(1) Armed Assault to Murder
(2) Assault & Battery on a Person Over 60
(3) Assault & Battery Dangerous Weapon on a Person Over 60
Detailed information regarding the suspect’s identity, that of the victim, and the location of the incident are being withheld in accordance with Exemption (a) of the Massachusetts Public Records law which applies to records that are “specifically or by necessary implication exempt from disclosure by statute.” Specifically, G.L c. 41 s.97D. INITIAL HN REPORT & VIDEO:
CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see in the following HN Video, at around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, Barnstable Police and COMM Firefighters responded to the 400 block of Old Stage Road for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police observed that the victim had been stabbed multiple times, according to radio transmissions. The patient was transported to the Cape Cod Airfield to be airlifted by MedFlight to an off-Cape trauma center. Meanwhile, back at the crime scene, police completely shut down Old Stage Road between Shoot Flying Hill Road and Great Marsh Road. Massachusetts State Police detectives eventually arrived, along with state police crime scene technicians. District Attorney Rob Galibois also eventually arrived and appeared to be discussing the situation with one of the detectives assigned to his office. According to an earlier Barnstable Police Department media statement, a 24-year-old suspect is in custody and there is no ongoing danger to the surrounding neighborhoods. Sources on scene report the suspect was a male. [DEVELOPING DETAILS]
