Breaking Story as seen first on Hyannis News:
CENTERVILLE – A resident was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with undisclosed injuries after an armed home invasion on Skunknet Road earlier today.
Shortly after 1am this morning, police received a call from the state 911 dispatch system regarding an ongoing home invasion.
As Barnstable Police squad cars rushed to the scene, dispatch officers were initially unable to make phone contact with the victims.
Initial officers on scene reported at least two suspects fleeing the scene on foot, with one suspect possibly covered with blood… Details are still sketchy as Barnstable detectives are checking facts and investigating.
A high-ranking detective was unable to disclose too much at this time, but did confirm an adult male from the residence was transported to CCH. COMM FD also confirmed having transported a patient from the scene shortly after 1:23am.
At this time detectives are still considering the possibility of multiple suspects.
At least one suspect is said to have brandished a handgun… but it reportedly was not fired.
Barnstable Patrolwoman K. Ross also responded down the dirt portion of Skunknet Road, where she got out on foot in order to close in on the scene from a different direction. Moments after being out on foot, Ross apparently got a look at the suspects getting into an awaiting vehicle off in the distance. Ross hustled to get a better look and was able to learn some details regarding the suspect’s vehicle. (Those details are being withheld by HN as the investigation unfolds.)
A patrol supervisor on scene instantly called for a K-9, but there were not any K-9 units on patrol at the time of the invasion. Both Mashpee and Yarmouth police departments were also contacted, with Yarmouth Police eventually contacting an off duty K-9 unit which responded to search for discarded evidence in the area.
A Barnstable County Sheriff crime scene investigation officer responded to take photographs and collect physical evidence. Blood specimens were also collected. Detectives will continue to evaluate that evidence as it is fully processed.
Further details are being withheld for the time being as Detectives continue to investigate. Barnstable Detectives will be providing a press release as soon as arrests are made.
UPDATE: Armed Home Invasion carries a lengthy prison sentence.
