HN NOTE: The following video begins with HN dashcam footage. By pure coincidence, HN happened to be driving through the Nautical Way neighborhood shortly after someone took a chainsaw and cut into the side of one of the homes. Moments later police were notified about a person running through backyards in the area, a victim who resides at the Nautical Way address… Barnstable Police also quickly reviewed the HN footage, particularly interested in vehicle traffic… but as the investigation unfolded, officers were able to obtain definite suspect information from one of the witnesses…

HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] Someone reportedly used a chainsaw to send a message on Nautical Way last evening.

Late last evening, Barnstable Police responded to 60 Nautical Way after someone suddenly cut into the side of a house. The building appeared to be in the middle of some type of renovation and a section of stockade fencing was nailed up to cover the rear sliding glass door.

At least one person was inside the home when teeth from a chainsaw began tearing into the fencing… Neighbors report having distinctly heard the chainsaw…

After a brief investigation, police had identified a suspect and were looking for a white landscaping truck.

At about 10:56PM, about an hour into the investigation, Dennis Police took a male suspect into custody at an address in their town. They also seized a chainsaw as evidence.

According sources, the incident may have been over an ongoing work related dispute. The suspect also did not have a notable criminal history, sources say.

The chainsaw was secured as evidence at BPD Headquarters and further details were unavailable at the time of this report. HN will provide updates as they become available.
