Children, pets, and parents safe after electrical fire…
SOUTH YARMOUTH – A father reportedly quickly jumped out of bed and started battling a kitchen fire early this morning. His quick response, and the fact that it was a water cooler that had ignited, kept the fire from getting further out of hand…
At about 1:18AM, Yarmouth firefighters rushed to 108 Quartermaster Row for a report of a structure fire.
Early reports say it was some sort of electrical problem that caused a fire to start inside of a water cooler. Sources tell HN the plastic water jug on top of the cooler partially melted, spilling its contents onto the fire…
… and firefighters seemed grateful for the unusual assist.
A family of four, including a dog, and possibly other pets, were forced out of the home by smoke. Everyone was checked out for symptoms of smoke inhalation, but no one needed further treatment.
An electrical inspector was called to the scene. At the time of this report, it remains uncertain as to whether it was safe for the family to return to the home.
HN spoke with a couple of the family members and learned they had a place to stay just in case. One family member expressed relief that everyone was safe, including the pets. Everyone was in bed when the fire suddenly broke out, and things could have turned out much worse.
The following HN video footage highlights the scene…
