CHRISTMAS EVE: Working hard and taking it home… eventually…
HYANNIS – HN NOTES — Our unsung heroes are the men and women who get up early, pack their lunches, and head off to work. It’s not always easy, but almost every hardworking person I’ve ever known will tell you they much rather work than sit around and do nothing. They gain satisfaction from earning a living and it shows on their faces.
Furthermore, anyone who has ever owned or operated a business knows there are deadlines and commitments in this modern world, ones which cannot be ignored, not even on Christmas Eve or any other holiday for that matter…
This Christmas Eve was no different than years past. From the girls who fix the coffee, to the guys lifting a Hyannis Port home off its foundation in order to pour a new one, the unsung heroes are out there making things happen. Private sector workers are the ones who keep this little world of ours going by driving the economy and paying the taxes which pay for the programs that help others who cannot or will not work.
We often praise our police and firefighters, as we should, because they’re out there everyday 24/7 doing their best to protect, serve, and keep us safe… but it’s the unsung heroes, the hard workers in the private sector, that play an essential role in our community’s overall well-being.
Most of the workers I spoke with today told me they plan on stopping at noon to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day… but they didn’t fool me one bit. No, many of the young men and women out there today, including the small business owners, will continue to work past “quitting time.”
The job needs to get done, and if they don’t do it, who will?

Have a safe and splendiferous Christmas Eve!
