Church goers surprised as pursuit ends near entrance to the pews…
Hyannis – Saint Francis Xavier church goers received a Sunday morning surprise as police took a bicyclist into custody.
Barnstable patrol officers were investigating a suspicious white male wearing a black ‘dew rag’ when he took off on a bicycle. Several squad cars were involved in a brief pursuit as the bicyclist would not cooperate and stop.
Witnesses report a cruiser was right on the subjects tail when it followed the bike into the front lot of St. F.X. Church on South St…. and the pursuit would have continued indefinitely if it wasn’t for an officer quickly jumping out of his patrol car and physically removing the non-compliant suspicious male from his bike. The subject was briefly handcuffed on a grassy area near the lot.
After a brief investigation the officer was apparently satisfied and used his discretion to release the detained individual from custody.
Nobody was injured and bystanders were amazed at the officers’ professionalism despite having to deal with a person who was initially very uncooperative.
