COPS: Brewster man had pocket full of drugs when Tazed in middle of Route 28…
WEST YARMOUTH – A criminal with past drug distribution convictions reportedly took off running from police officers last week.
According to a press statement, on Friday, November 18, 2016, Yarmouth police officers Nicholas Ambrosini and Andrew Coville went to check on a known drug user acting suspiciously in a West Yarmouth motel parking lot.
During the encounter, the man suddenly ran into the middle of Route 28 as officers pursued, ordering him to stop.
The foot pursuit ended after the suspect reportedly tripped and fell in the westbound traffic lane.
Officer Ambrosini, a member of the YPD’s Proactive Anti-Crime Unit, deployed his Taser after the suspect reportedly became threatening and assaultive. The suspect was taken into custody once compliant…
Yarmouth Patrolman Conor Burnham arrived and conducted a pat frisk, finding a golf ball sized package of cocaine and heroin in the suspect’s pocket.
During transport, the suspect reportedly began crying uncontrollably, telling officers he was sorry. According to the press statement, the suspect only intended to sell drugs for a year until he could save up some money after just serving a two-year jail term for selling drugs.
During the booking process, $941.00 found in the suspect’s wallet was seized as evidence.
Drugs from the suspect’s pocket came to 7.7 grams of heroin and 8.8 grams of cocaine.
Corey R. Rathburn, age 30, of Brewster, was charged with:
1. Possession To Distribute Class A Heroin, Subsequent Offense
2. Possession To Distribute Class B Cocaine, Subsequent Offense
3. Resisting Arrest
4. Disorderly Conduct
Rathburn was currently on probation for drug distribution convictions. He was scheduled for arraignment earlier today in Barnstable District Court.
