CREWS BATTLE TWO-ALARM CONDO BLAZE IN FALMOUTH
FALMOUTH FD MEDIA STATEMENT: On January 2nd, at 09:51 a.m., Falmouth Emergency Communications received a report of visible smoke and fire at the Briarwood Condominiums on Pine Valley Drive. The first-arriving firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames self-venting from a second-floor window. Fortunately, bystanders indicated that the unit was unoccupied.
Due to the condominium’s challenging location behind another structure, fire crews initially fought the bulk of the fire from the exterior before entering the building. A second alarm was issued because of the significant fire volume, the building’s position, and strong winds. The fire extended to two neighboring units, but it was extinguished shortly after 11:00 a.m., with crews remaining on-site until about 1:50 p.m. The building was then handed back to its owners.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Fire Investigation Unit and the Massachusetts State Police-Fire and Explosion Unit. Multiple fire rescue departments, including Bourne, Joint Base Cape Cod, Sandwich, Mashpee, Cotuit, Centerville Osterville, and Marston Mills, provided mutual aid to the scene and town-wide coverage. Additionally, the Special Signal Fire Association / Providence Canteen and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services—Special Operations Division Rehab Unit offered support on the scene. Thank you to our community partners, the Falmouth Police Department. for providing traffic control and scene safety, allowing fire personnel to work safely.
