Selectman’s home saved after fire breaks out in South Dennis garage… [HN VIDEO]
SOUTH DENNIS – At 6:39 a.m. this morning, the Dennis Police and Dennis Firefighters rushed to 17 Farm Lane for a report of a structure fire. Fire had broken out in the home’s attached garage and smoke detectors alerted all occupants to get out of the house, according to a DFD media statement.
Occupants of the home were outside fighting the fire with a garden hose as first responders arrived on scene. As you will hear in the following HN Video, the first Dennis Police Officers on scene also attacked the flames with a fire extinguisher. Arriving Dennis Firefighters reported smoke still coming from the garage of the two-story home. Firefighters stretched a hose line, knocked down the rest of the fire and began checking for extension.
“Power fans were used to remove smoke from the remainder of the house. Yarmouth Fire assisted Dennis at the scene and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation but has been determined not to be suspicious,” according to the DFD media statement.
Sources on scene advised HN that the home belongs to an active member of the Dennis Board of Selectmen. An online search of Dennis town records and online sources confirmed the property belongs to John Terrio, who was re-elected to his third term on the Dennis Board of Selectmen in the spring of 2020.
HN spoke with a young man who was inside the home when the fire broke out. He credited his mom for quickly noticing the fire and alerting everyone. Although it was harrowing scene for the young man, he felt fortunate everyone had evacuated the home safely.
Thanks to the quick work of the occupants, police and firefighters, the fire was contained to the garage area and it appears the family will not be displaced.
The following HN Video contains police and fire radio transmissions, initial HN still photographs of the scene, along with general video shots…
