*** NEW DETAILS *** DRIVER WAS DRUNK, UNLICENSED AT TIME OF CRASH, COPS SAY… [HN READER VIDEO]
HYANNIS – According to details provided by Lt. Mark Mellyn of the Barnstable Police Department, the single vehicle crash occurred at 12:32 a.m. on Saturday morning, 2/11/2023. The operator was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a Hyannis FD ambulance. Barnstable Police Patrolman L.J. Fellows was in charge of the investigation which began in the area of 356 Scudder Ave and continued inside the emergency room.
Based on paperwork filed by Ptl. Fellows, the driver is identified as Richard Cruz, 22, of Hyannis. While at CCH, Cruz was issued a criminal summons for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Negligent Operation, Mark Lanes Violation, and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol Inside a Motor Vehicle.

HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – The single vehicle crash on Scudder Ave happened either late Friday evening, 2/10/23… or very early Saturday morning, 2/11/2023. HN remembers hearing the call but was working on another story regarding a possible gunshot in Sandwich. The crash in Hyannis happened just north of the intersection with Smith Street. There were reported injuries not believed to be life-threatening. According to police officials, there were criminal charges filed.

The following HN reader video was sent in by a gentleman named Roman. It shows a heavily damaged vehicle that landed on the front yard retaining wall of a residence on Scudder Ave. The crash appeared serious, and bystanders were very concerned about the condition of the occupants.
