Yarmouth Police Investigate Fatal Early Morning Crash
On Friday, July 10, 2015 at 1:11AM the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a crash involving two motorcycles near the intersection of Route 28 and Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers arrived on scene first and found two heavily damaged motorcycles on the ground as well as four people injured. One of the injured was in cardiac arrest and the other three were suffering from a variety of serious injuries. Yarmouth Police Officers secured the scene and immediately provided CPR to the victim in cardiac arrest and first aid to the other three.
Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department arrived and took over the CPR and provided advanced life support. Members of the Fire Department also treated the other three injured persons.
All four were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Despite all of the life-saving efforts, the operator of vehicle one was unable to be saved and was pronounced deceased. The other three have a wide range of injuries but are expected to survive.
Members of the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit arrived at the scene and are conducting a crash reconstruction. Members of the Yarmouth Police Department Detective Division also arrived at the scene are conducting an active follow-up investigation.
The initial preliminary investigation indicates that both vehicles were travelling east on Route 28 approaching Old Main Street. As both vehicles were turning right on to Old Main Street it appears that vehicle one struck the curbing on the right hand side and lost control which appears to have caused vehicle two to also lose control.
The operator of vehicle one (2013 Harley Davidson)—Bruce E. Fernandes age 48, of Lake Shore Drive in Pascoag, Rhode Island—is deceased. His passenger which is also his daughter—Brittany Fernandes age 24 of the same address—was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The operator of vehicle two (2014 Harley Davidson)—Scott A. Fernandes age 45, which is the brother of Bruce, of Park Avenue in Woonsocket, Rhode Island—was transported to Cape Cod Hospital. His passenger—Amy Tessier age 25, of Wallum Lake Road in Pascoag, Rhode Island—was also transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The Yarmouth Police Department extends our condolences to the Fernandes Family.
This crash remains under active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Yarmouth Police Department Detective Christopher A. Kent at 508.775.0445 extension 2125 or ckent@yarmouth.ma.us
