SANDWICH BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
SANDWICH PD MEDIA STATEMENT:
Cape Cod Cooperative Bank robbery suspect is under arrest.
The suspect in yesterday’s robbery of the Cape Cod Cooperative Bank on Cotuit Road has been arrested. The subject was identified utilizing video surveillance from a local business. Upon identifying the subject, Sandwich Police Detectives, with the assistance of Wareham PD and the Massachusetts State Police began surveilling the subject.
This morning, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 44 year old Thomas Briand Jr. of Onset MA. Shortly before 10am, police executed a stop of the motor vehicle Briand was travelling in, on Route 495 in Wareham. Briand was taken into custody without incident.
Briand is being booked at the Sandwich Police Department and is scheduled to be arraigned on unarmed robbery charges today in Barnstable District Court.
The Sandwich Police Department would like to thank the employees at Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, the businesses the provided surveillance video, those in the community that provided information, as well as well as the multiple law enforcement agencies (Mashpee Police Department, Wareham Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office) that made it possible to quickly take the suspect into custody.

DEVELOPING: POLICE INVESTIGATING BANK ROBBERY IN SANDWICH
SANDWICH PD MEDIA STATEMENT:
The Sandwich Police Department is investigating a Bank Robbery at the Cape Cod Cooperative Bank on Cotuit Road.
At approximately 4pm, officers responded to a panic alarm from the Cape Cod Cooperative Bank. A male party, described as white, possibly 5’6” – 5’7”, with a stocky build reportedly entered the bank and demanded money from one of the tellers. No weapon was shown and the suspect’s face was covered. The teller followed the suspect’s directions, at which time he fled the bank on foot.
At the time of the robbery, there were no customers in the bank. None of the bank staff were injured during the incident.
Members of the Sandwich Police Department with assistance from Mashpee PD and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
