*** NEW DETAILS *** DRIVER ARRESTED FOR 2ND OFFENSE DRUNK DRIVING AFTER LEAVING BARNSTABLE CRASH SCENE [HN VIDEO]
UPDATE – 12/20/2023: According to a number of Barnstable Police reports filed in Barnstable District Court, the suspect, later identified as Brian Snow, allegedly told his girlfriend “we gotta go” when she arrived on scene right after the crash.
The suspect’s vehicle had apparently just blown through a stop sign before crashing through a guardrail and up an embankment at the intersection of Independence Drive and Mary Dunn Road on Saturday evening — 12/16/2023 — at around 10:15 p.m.
According to a report filed by Patrolman Jeffrey Jackson of the BPD, two witnesses arrived on scene moments after the crash. They both exited their vehicle to see if anyone needed help when they reportedly observed a man, “six feet tall, with grayish balding hair, in his late 50’s to early 60’s wearing a spiked belt, jeans and a white shirt exit the driver’s side of the car.” A dark colored Honda SUV then arrived on scene with a female driving. That’s when the suspect (Brian Snow) reportedly said to the woman, “we gotta go” before entering the passenger side of the Honda which then fled the scene on Mary Dunn Road towards Route 6A.
While investigating, Patrolman Jackson observed the crashed vehicle had an expired registration and the registered owner, Brian Snow, had a suspended driver’s license due to a prior OUI arrest that occurred in September of this year. The case is still open and ongoing… and the previous arrest also involved the same vehicle that officers had just discovered jammed against the mangled guardrail at the intersection of Independence and Mary Dunn.
The unfolding investigation brought BPD Patrolman Daniel Ruth to an address on nearby Oakmont Drive, where he reportedly peered through the front door window and observed a woman having conversation with someone just out of view, talking loudly. Patrolman Ruth reportedly knocked and gained the woman’s attention, who looked at him, “raised her hands and shook her head. After several knocks at the door, she refused to answer…”
But Officer Ruth was persistent as two additional officers arrived to assist. Finally, about 5 minutes later, the woman came to the door where officers advised her that they all wished to have a word with Brian Snow in regard to his vehicle just being found jammed into a mangle guardrail several blocks away. And that’s when the woman reportedly invited officers into the house and said, “Brian, you have to talk to them.”
Brian Snow reportedly smelled like booze and was swaying from side to side while bracing himself against a wall in the hallway. He denied driving that evening and reportedly told officers, “My vehicle is in the driveway.” Snow was reportedly being argumentative with officers as his denial continued, and that’s when the woman reportedly said to him, “Brian, you need to tell them the truth, it will set you free… you missed the stop sign at the intersection and crashed. I was following behind you and brought you home after you crashed.”
Snow reportedly continued to deny driving the vehicle that had crashed that evening.
Snow was arrested and charged with 2ND Offense OUI-Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, OUI on a License already Suspended for OUI, Leaving the Scene of a crash with Property Damage, Failure to Stop for a stop sign, and Unregistered Motor Vehicle.
The woman at the house on Oakmont Drive reportedly told officers she has been in a relationship with the suspect for nearly 20 years. She also reportedly told officers that Snow had been driving home from Boston in his current condition and that she had observed him driving erratically and all over the road on Route 6 prior to the crash… and that she was unable to stop him from driving earlier when he left Boston without her after an argument. They had reportedly planned on spending the night in Boston prior to him leaving. She reportedly also told officers that this was the worst she has seen him in terms of alcohol consumption… and that it was her opinion he should not have been driving. She reportedly told officers she attempted to remain at the crash scene but was forced to leave by Snow.
Snow was reportedly wearing a spiked belt at the time of his arrest, as reportedly described earlier by the two witnesses.
HN NOTE: The aforementioned are just a few of the details reported by police officers regarding this case. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
