Eight American Flags Honoring Purple Heart Recipient Ripped Down in Disgraceful Act
WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – In a shocking display of disrespect, a vandal(s) has once again targeted the Lance Corporal William Joseph Donovan Jr. Memorial Bridge, tearing down American flags placed in honor of the Purple Heart recipient. This marks the second attack in just two months.
Early Monday morning, Yarmouth Police responded to the scene after receiving reports about the desecrated flags. What they found was nothing short of heartbreaking: eight American flags, lovingly placed by Donovan’s father on Friday to replace those destroyed in a similar July incident, were viciously ripped from the bridge’s fencing. The flags’ grommets were torn out, and at least three were shredded at the seams in what can only be described as a deliberate act of destruction.
Lance Corporal William Joseph Donovan Jr. made life-changing sacrifices for his country, and the memorial bridge bearing his name stands as a testament to his bravery. Yet, for reasons unknown, this sacred site has become a target for a callous vandal(s) who seems hell-bent on dishonoring his legacy.
The Yarmouth Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, no matter how small the detail, to help catch those responsible for this vile act.
