INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS, Massachusetts – Firefighters responded to the Barnstable Police Department shortly after 5:30 p.m. this evening for a fire in the facility’s garage area. The fire was quickly extinguished, according to radio transmissions. But there was a heavy smoke condition that needed to be dealt with. According to radio transmissions, a BPD unit responded to Yarmouth Police Headquarters to use the breathalyzer as officials were dealing with the fire and smoke condition. The BPD’s lockup and arrest processing rooms are directly connected to the garage area. The BPD’s ability to handle prisoners at their facility is temporarily unavailable, according to radio transmissions. It sounds like officers were transporting at least one recent arrest to the county lockup, at the time of this report… HN checked in at the BPD’s front desk to see if everyone was okay… and they said they were. The dispatch area appeared to up and operating as usual.
HN is reaching out to officials for additional details… [DEVELOPING]
