*** HN PHOTOS *** BACK-TO-BACK BMW CRASHES… ONE REPORTED STOLEN MOMENTS AFTER FOUND UNOCCUPIED…
YARMOUTH/HYANNIS – Both “single vehicle” BMW crashes were reported within minutes of each other, at around 1:40 a.m, and about 3.5 miles from each other. One of the BMWs slammed into a vehicle parked in front of the Sons of Erin Irish-American Club in West Yarmouth. Both adult male occupants were uninjured despite the violent impact with the stationary SUV. It’s uncertain what caused the BMW to leave the roadway and strike the parked vehicle. According to police sources, there were no signs of the driver being under the influence of anything. The Yarmouth Police investigation is ongoing, and the driver may receive a summons in the mail for possible motor vehicle charges, according to a source. Both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.
The second BMW to crash this morning apparently left the roadway and became disabled in the middle of the Airport Rotary in Hyannis. The driver had fled prior to police arriving on scene. Moments after Barnstable Police discovered the disabled BMW, the registered owner allegedly called dispatch reporting his car stolen. The registered owner lives in the town of Yarmouth, but a “ping” allegedly placed his phone in the area of the crash. (Strange…) When police called back the phone used to report the stolen vehicle, nobody answered. Yarmouth Police went to the address of the registered owner in their town, but at the time of this report, it’s uncertain whether they were able to locate him. The BMW was damaged and needed to be towed from the scene. The vehicle appeared customized to sit low to the ground. It is believed the modified BMW crashed onto the soft grass and dug in, causing damage with airbag deployment. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash, along with the report of it allegedly being stolen.
HN NOTE: Other than just narrowly avoiding being hit head-on by another vehicle traveling without headlights while crossing into my lane at high speed, HN’s response to both of these back-to-back early morning BMW crashes (and to borrow the old BMW advertising slogan) was nothing less than a “sheer driving pleasure!” (It’s also a sheer pleasure to be alive this morning.)
And also – aside from all that – I’m going to need everyone to go right on ahead and have a very safe and splendiferous Sunday! Please remember to keep your eyes peeled while driving posted speeds. Those extra spit-seconds of reaction time could mean the difference between life and death!
Peace!
