HN PHOTOS: Busy day for Hyannis Rescue…

Hyannis – It was a busy day (as always) for Hyannis Rescue.
The above photos show an intoxicated unconscious man in the Subway parking lot at the West End Rotary this afternoon. Rescue workers were unable to get much of a response before transporting him to CCH.

Just minutes after the above call, a second Hyannis Rescue responded to a second man passed out on the side of the road on Cedar Street in Hyannis. The man was on the ground next to several empty vodka bottles. The man was hoisted onto a stretcher and taken to CCH.
HN NOTE: The daily number of Hyannis Rescue calls related to alcohol and drug abuse overextend our local resources, to say the least…
Also, aside from rescue workers, these are the scenes Hyannis residents and tourists of all ages witness on a daily basis due to the poor planning in the downtown area. Today’s images were taken around the same time our local children had just arrived home from school.
These unpleasant images are constant reminders of the much deeper underlying issues in our community…
HN had an interesting conversation today with a member of a cable TV documentary company working on the issue of drugs across our nation. One interesting observation is that the drug problems across our nation seem to be more intense in various pockets or areas related to towns and cities that find themselves in declining economic conditions. It seems the areas with the most apparent problems with drug and alcohol abuse happen in poor communities that have far less hope than other areas…
… again, these are just anecdotal observations… but I believe there is something to them…
Addiction is a complicated issue, but HN strongly believes that hope in one’s financial stability can be a tremendous motivator in wanting to achieve a brighter and healthier future.
Is it the panacea for fighting addiction? It’s not that simple… but having hope definitely does not hurt when one is trying to envision a positive direction in life…
So, what can be done to make living conditions better for all of our residents in Hytown?
