HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] – At around 7:00 p.m. last evening, Hyannis Firefighters and Barnstable Police officers rushed toward the Roadhouse Cafe on South Street for a report of an active fire inside the restaurant. The first firefighters on scene found that most of the fire had been extinguished by employees. When firefighters entered, however, they were astounded that most of the diners were still seated at their tables enjoying their food while smoke rolled across the ceiling. The diners were ordered to evacuate immediately. The fire had somehow started in one of the bathrooms, causing significant damage, according to sources. Crews needed to quickly tear into the bathroom walls and ceiling to make sure the fire hadn’t spread further. In the end, the fire had been successfully contained to the bathroom area, sources say. The restaurant would need to be closed down for the remainder of the evening, as it was filled with smoke and needed to be ventilated. There were no reports of injuries. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to take photos of the scene. The Hyannis Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire…
