HN PHOTOS: Firefighters stop large Hyannis brush fire from spreading further out of control…
HYANNIS – Firefighters were alerted to a fire expanding across a large wooded area along Mary Dunn Road this afternoon. Upon arrival, crews found a large area of trees and brush burning near the roadway. At one point the fire appeared as though it was about to jump the roadway and continue on across acres of woodlands near the Cape Cod Gateway Airport. Firefighters were eventually able to extinguish the flames but needed to spend several hours wetting down hot spots.
Firefighters from surrounding towns were called in to assist at the scene and with station coverage.
A drone pilot with the Barnstable Police Department responded to provide command with aerial images of the area.
Volunteers with the Cape Cod Division of the Providence Canteen responded to help firefighters re-hydrate and cool off.
