HN PHOTOS: “It’s no big deal – just more drugs, booze and deadly behaviors…”

HN NOTES: The first two HN photos show police officers taking a woman into protective custody in a downtown Hyannis parking lot, earlier today. Officers were called about an intoxicated woman allegedly putting herself and others in danger by trying to get behind the wheel and drive away. Officers arrived and called her a taxicab, hoping she would do the right thing by letting a sober person drive her home. However, officers ultimately ended up changing their minds, and a brief tussle ensued while the woman was being handcuffed.
In the last photo, Barnstable Police received calls about a young man rolling around in people’s mulch on School Street. Concerned about some kind of reaction to illicit drugs, officers called Hyannis FD Rescue to evaluate and transport the young man to Cape Cod Hospital.

In both instances, something needed to be done to avert disaster. Alcohol and drug fueled deadly behaviors are way too common throughout any given day in the downtown area.
And the normalization and blind acceptance of these way too common behaviors is perhaps the biggest tragedy of all.
