HN VIDEO: Route 6 completely shut down between Exits 1 & 2 due to major power transmission line down across all lanes… numerous power crews arriving over the bridge needed to be diverted…
SAGAMORE – Shortly before 10:00PM last evening, troopers assigned to the local detachment of the Massachusetts State Police made a radio announcement that they needed to immediately shut down Route 6 entirely, both eastbound and westbound, between Exits 1 & 2, due to a major power transmission line that had just fallen across all travel lanes. Troopers, with the assistance of the Sandwich and Bourne Police Departments, scrambled to shut down all ramps leading into the hazardous segment of the highway.
This all occurred right as long lines of numerous utility trucks and power crews were crossing the Sagamore Bridge onto the Cape…
The following HN Video shows the scene in the area of Exit 1 on Route 6 shortly after the Mid-Cape Highway needed to be closed.
As of 1:30AM, Route 6 between Exits 1 & 2 remains completely closed down, with westbound traffic being diverted at the Exit 2 off ramp… and eastbound traffic being diverted at the Exit 1 off ramp.
Police have called out for special police details to cover all traffic posts… power crews are on scene… and the highway is expected to remain closed for an undetermined amount of time into the early morning hours… but sources tell HN that crews are working hard to have the highway reopened by the morning commute.
