*** WATCH *** Cops swarm woods after store clerk threatened by hatchet wielding madman…
HYANNIS – As you will see in the following HN Video, multiple police units responded to Route 28 in the area of the Yarmouth/Barnstable town line for a man who had just assaulted two people with a hatchet. The assault reportedly happened last evening at the Racing Mart gas station/convenient store at the intersection Route 28 and Main Street in West Yarmouth.
HN spoke with a male store clerk who reported that a man who had been kicked out of the store earlier in the evening returned with a hatchet. A female friend of the store clerk reported also being assaulted by the hatchet wielding madman, telling HN that at one point he raised the weapon above his head threatening to strike them.
The madman didn’t strike them but it was exceedingly frightening nonetheless. The man then reportedly fled into a nearby wooded area still in possession of his small axe.
Police from Yarmouth and Barnstable, along with a couple of state troopers, entered the woods and began searching a homeless camp. Several individuals residing in tents ended up being detained in handcuffs while officers continued their search.
Despite the swift arrival of two K9 units, the madman managed to escape. The detained individuals were released from handcuffs and allowed to return to their makeshift shelters. Police have a name for the suspect who was still at large at the time of this report.
