HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A 27-year-old Hyannis man is facing criminal motor vehicle charges after his pickup truck slammed into a telephone pole in the early hours of Friday.

Barnstable Police and a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crew raced to Winter Street, a short distance from the Charles Street intersection, around 12:30 a.m. after multiple calls reported the crash. The loud crash drew multiple residents out of their apartments.

When Hyannis News arrived, the driver was already standing outside the wrecked white Chevy Silverado, speaking with officers. He was bleeding from a head laceration and received a brief check from the ambulance crew. He needed no further medical care and showed no obvious signs of impairment. Police eventually released him from the scene.

According to police sources, the man is being summoned to Barnstable District Court on the criminal motor vehicle charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle.  He is also being charged with a marked lanes violation.  No further information regarding the suspect was available at the time of this report.

The pole remained upright and intact. Buckler’s Towing later removed the Silverado.
