HN HIGH RISK TRAFFIC STOP VIDEO: Driver taken down at gunpoint after call to police alleging someone in backseat wielding weapon…
HYANNIS – Multiple police units swarmed into the area of Route 28 in Osterville and Centerville last evening at about 11:15 p.m., after a man called Barnstable Police reportedly stating there was someone in the backseat of his Toyota Prius wielding some type of weapon.
At first, responding patrol officers were unsure if the driver of the Prius was being held against his will or not. But it wasn’t long before officers determined the driver may have been suffering from some type of “DMH” Issue (A suspected Department of Mental Health related issue).
But nevertheless, officers did not have the luxury of taking any changes and began planning to conduct a high risk traffic stop. Officers began following the Prius along Route 28 near the Osterville/Centerville Village line. Then, in the area of West Main Street and Strawberry Hill Road, once enough police units were nearby, a Barnstable Police Sergeant told the lead squad car to “see if you can light him up,” or in other words, initiate the traffic stop.
The following HN Video documents what happened next. (HN NOTE: The driver was taken to CCH for evaluation… and was not facing charges at the time of this report…)
