UPDATE: 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL TRANSPORTED TO HASBRO IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER STRUCK BY CAR IN HYANNIS… [HN VIDEO]
[BPD MEDIA STATEMENT] On Thursday, April 22, 2021, just before 8pm, Patrol Officers from the Barnstable Police Department responded to the area of the Dollar General store on West Main St, Hyannis for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Witnesses reported that two young girls had run across the roadway in front of them and, after they had crossed, a third girl ran out into the roadway and was struck by a passing motor vehicle driven by a 21 year old Hyannis man, who remained on scene until police arrived.
Thankfully, the 7 year old girl sustained injuries that appear to be minor, but was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island as a precaution.
No charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – A 7-year-old girl was badly hurt after being hit by a car on West Main Street earlier this evening.
Just prior to 8:00 p.m., Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters rushed to West Main Street right in front of the new Dollar General store a child struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival first responders found the child badly hurt, but able to cry and still move a little according to witnesses.
Hyannis Firefighters confirmed the 7-year-old girl was seriously injured and transported to a trauma hospital in Rhode Island. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
The driver of a red colored Mustang remained on scene.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to take photos…
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
