HN PHOTOS: The inescapable heat of the night…

In the heat of the night
Seems like a cold sweat
Creeping cross my brow…
In the heat of the night
I’m feeling motherless somehow
Stars with evil eyes stare from the sky
All mean and bright…
In the heat of the night

HN NOTES: According to a weather app, it was still 81°F around 1:30 a.m. this morning, when several homeless individuals called EMS, concerned about an unresponsive male who had been sleeping next to them on the Hyannis Village Green bandstand. Police and EMTs were able to eventually awaken the young man, assisting him to his feet and then onto a stretcher. He was nauseous, fatigued, and obviously unsteady… and it’s a good thing someone called. It’s uncertain if the heat was the main cause of his illness, but it certainly didn’t help things. The infirm man was ultimately transported to the emergency room for further care.
The past several overnights have been brutal for those without shelter and other creature comforts. Comforts like AC and readily available clean water – maybe even a cool drink – so often taken for granted by those who don’t typically worry about such things.
And last evening was especially sweltering, almost airless, without the faintest whisper of even the slightest consoling breeze…
… as those inescapable “stars with evil eyes,” stared down from the sky, “all mean and bright.”
