*** WATCH *** Major Hyannis water main break… expect outages and delays in the area…
HYANNIS – A Barnstable Police Patrolman discovered the break and radioed that the water was gushing out “pretty bad” and that there was a sinkhole and that the road was lifting up, causing a hazard…
The break was discovered at about 1:40 a.m. on Bearses Way at the intersection with Hiramar Road, right in between two large family neighborhoods.
The water department also responded and began working to slow the flow. The Hyannis Fire Department was also on scene.
The break will obviously need to be repaired immediately. At about 3:30 a.m., crews on scene reported that the flow was slowed down. The water needed to be shut off at certain points and in a couple of hours it is expected that some families will be waking up without water.
Waters outages and road delays in the area of the break are expected throughout the morning, at the very least…
HN will provide official updates as they become available.
