OFFICER: “You’re going to get yourself killed!” [HN PHOTOS]

HYANNIS – [HN PHOTOS] – A traffic stop became a little more complicated after officers discovered drug paraphernalia, giving them probable cause to investigate further this afternoon.

During the search officers discovered a very realistic looking BB gun within reach inside the vehicle, which prompted officers to caution the passengers on the numerous ways a legal “toy” gun could escalate an encounter into a lethal situation. One officer who had established rapport with one of the three young male passengers, looked him in the eye with concern and warned, “You’re going to get yourself killed.”

Two members of the Cape Cod Regional S.W.A.T team had been in the area and pulled over to provide back up until other officers arrived.

A Barnstable County Sheriff’s Deputy also responded with his K-9 partner Shelly to assist in the search.

The Barnstable Police investigated and documented the encounter, but no arrests were made at this time.
