HN PHOTOS: Officers investigating allegations of sexual assault inside Hyannis hotel room…
HYANNIS – A woman was sitting on a cement retaining wall with her bags packed as HN arrived on scene. She was very upset, alleging she had just been sexually assaulted. A little dog was standing next to her and her bags, barking at officers.
Around the corner from the upset woman, in the hotel’s parking lot, a Mashpee man in his late 30s was being detained in handcuffs. An officer reached down into a backpack, pulled out a lighter and lit a cigarette sticking out of the handcuffed man’s mouth. He could be heard telling an officer his version of events.
It had been around 3:25 a.m. when the first Barnstable Police officers arrived on scene for a report of a possible verbal domestic between a man and a woman, outside of the hotel’s office. Moments later a patrolman radioed there had possibly been some type of “SA,” or sexual assault. This prompted the response of a supervisor and a specially trained patrolman to the scene. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also responded to the scene.
Across the parking lot from the handcuffed man, on the hotel’s second floor, a patrolman stood guard in front of the outside entrance to room number 203. Room 203 was the alleged scene of the crime. The assault allegedly happened on the bed closest to the door, to be more specific.
The woman then entered an awaiting Hyannis FD ambulance and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital. Her dog was placed in the backseat of one of the cruisers until an Animal Control Officer arrived and took custody of him.
At the hospital, an officer radioed there was enough probable cause to arrest the man for A&B Domestic. The officer also indicated the other sexual assault allegations were still under investigation.
The man was transported to BPD Headquarters under arrest for A&B Domestic, with the possibility of more charges related to the sexual assault allegations being added later, as the investigation unfolds. [DEVELOPING]
