UPDATE – 12/10/2021: DA confirms the death of 50-years-old Eric Christensen is an active homicide investigation. WCVB reports Christensen was found unresponsive on the kitchen floor with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Various sources report at least three gunshots.
UPDATE FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY – 12/9/2021:
Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Barnstable Police Chief Matthew Sonnabend announced today that on December 8th at approximately 5:57 pm Barnstable Police responded to a 911 call for a medical emergency at 91 Oakview Terrace in Hyannis. Upon
arrival, police observed Eric Christensen (DOB: 3-21-71), unresponsive on the kitchen floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Hyannis Fire/Rescue transported Christensen to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The matter remains under active investigation by the Barnstable Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office. [DEVELOPING]

INITIAL HN COVERAGE:
HYANNIS – According to Sergeant Nathan St. Onge of the Barnstable Police Department, last evening’s crime scene on Oakview Terrace is officially a “death investigation.”
At around 5:59 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police and Hyannis FD Rescue rushed to 91 Oakview Terrace for a priority one patient. The patient was immediately transported to Cape Cod Hospital in “Trauma 1” condition, meaning it was a serious, life-threatening situation.
A neighbor alerted HN to the situation, stating they heard gunshots around 6:00 p.m. and that local and state police had came to their door asking questions. It’s IMPORTANT TO NOTE that police have not confirmed or denied whether there were actual shots fired at last evening’s crime scene. The cause or type of death has not yet been officially released and according to police sources, a press release is expected to be made available later this morning.
There also has been no official word on whether or not a suspect has been arrested in connection to last evening’s scene.
What HN does know is that it was a major crime scene/death investigation last evening on Oakview Terrace involving the Barnstable Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives. There were also several state police crime scene investigation trucks on location, at least one arrived from off-Cape. The Barnstable Police deployed its mobile command center, which was used throughout the evening by both Barnstable Police and State Police personnel.
HN was also informed that there were multiple undercover local and state police detectives working last evening’s scene, and the following HN footage has been carefully edited to protect the identity of certain assets.
All investigators cleared the scene around 2:00 a.m. this morning, but a police cruiser remained in the driveway…
As you will see in the following video, HN spoke with Frank Fawcett who came out of his neighboring residence to see what all the commotion was about. Frank did not hear gunshots but became alerted to the situation when a state trooper knocked on his door asking questions. Frank has lived in the neighborhood for 22 years and told HN he has never seen an investigation of this magnitude on Oakview Terrace ever before.
