NEW DETAILS: ARREST MADE INSIDE KENNEDY COMPOUND… [HN VIDEO]

UPDATE – 2/16/2022:

According to a Barnstable Police Report obtained by Hyannis News, at around 10:28 p.m. last evening – Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – BPD Officers Lariviere and Feliciano responded to Eugenia Fortes Beach to meet with Hyannisport Security regarding a suspicious motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers met with the Hyannisport Security officer and he stated the vehicle in question, a 2005 Toyota Scion with Florida registration IJ68GW, was owned by Anthony Putnam. Officers were advised that since early June, Putnam had been appearing in the Hyannisport area claiming to be a Kennedy relative. On Thanksgiving, Putnam reportedly showed up on the porch of one of the residences and was encountered by staff, who asked him to leave. Putnam then reportedly left a box containing what he claimed to be DNA evidence that he was a grandson of one of the Kennedys.

Putnam reportedly has interacted with security on more than one occasion in the past and has been told the compound is private property… and that he was not welcome there.

Patrolman Lariviere went to Marchant Ave (inside the compound) to check on the residences there. While turning onto Marchant Ave, Officer Lariviere reportedly noticed a male kneeling in driveway in front of Ethel Kennedy’s house “holding a can of spray paint in each hand.” Putnam was reported to be “actively spray painting the driveway.” Patrolman Lariviere then reportedly called out, “Anthony what are you doing?” To which Putnam reportedly replied, “I am family.”

Putnam then reportedly told Officer Lariviere his claim that he was the grandson of one of the Kennedys. Patrolman Lariviere’s police report continues, “At this time Putnam started to talk about how he had DNA proof and that the Kennedy family would not [accept] him as one of their own. He was rambling on that he is a Kennedy and that they will not accept him. While having conversation with Putnam I could clearly see red spray paint on the driveway and in the front yard (on the snow)…”

Putnam then reportedly said, “I did this because they need to know the truth about me.”

Patrolman Lariviere then reportedly placed Anthony Putnam under arrest for Injury to Real and Personal Property.

“ANTHONY PUTNAM” and “I AM [redacted] KENNEDYS GRANDSON” were some of the words spelled out in red block letters, allegedly observed painted in front Ethel Kennedy’s house. Two “Rust-oleum” gloss red spray paint cans were gathered as evidence.

Anthony Thomas Putnam, age 32, of Saratoga Springs, NY was charged with vandalizing property (Felony Injury to Real and Personal Property).

Putnam was scheduled to be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.

INITIAL HN REPORT:

HYANNISPORT – Around 10:30 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police Officers responded to Eugenia Fortes Beach after Hyannisport Security noticed a suspicious vehicle parked there.

The vehicle raised alarm and officers immediately responded a couple blocks away to Ethel Kennedy’s property inside the Kennedy Compound, where they arrested a man they encountered on scene for Injury to Real Property (“Tagging”) and possibly other charges, according to police radio transmissions. (Sources on scene report that Ethel Kennedy was likely home at the time of the vandalism, which would be unusual this time of year… but whether she was home or not has not been officially confirmed…)

A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to take photos of the vandalism inside the Kennedy Compound, as well as photos of the vehicle parked at Eugenia Fortes Beach. The vehicle was eventually towed from the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department. [DEVELOPING]
