Large scale violent disturbance at DYS lockup… rocks thrown at police… [VIDEO]
BREWSTER – [DEVELOPING] – For the second time within 24 hours, state and local police needed to respond to a local DYS lockup which was completely out of control.
At about 12 NOON today, a Massachusetts State Trooper came over the radio and announced there was an ongoing “large scale disturbance” at the DYS lockup located inside of Nickerson State Park.
As you’ll hear in the video, responding officers were warned that the police had also been there the night before (Wednesday) for similar call… and at that time they were throwing rocks at the police (according to the radio transmissions).
According to a source, a Brewster Police Sergeant first at the scene of last evening’s disturbance caught some very compelling dash cam video of the incident. HN is in the process of obtaining some of that footage…
HN was tuned in last evening and heard that Brewster Rescue needed to respond to the scene with at least one ambulance. It remains uncertain whether police officers had been injured or whether it was one or more of the combatants.
The following video highlights today’s scene which calmed down as police were arriving. At least two juvenile males were walked out in shackles and transported to what was described as a more secure facility.
HN will provide updates as they become available…
UPDATE – 5:41PM – 1/28/16: HN briefly spoke with Captain Eldredge of the Brewster PD… He related that no police were harmed last evening. Brewster Rescue did respond for two injured combatants. Also, the police dash cam video may not be able to be released because of the issue of redacting the images of the Juveniles at the facility.
There was no further information about the two injured juveniles from Wednesday’s violence. But today’s disturbance reportedly happened when two of the trouble makers from the night before were being transferred to another facility. There were no rocks or bricks thrown during today’s disturbance… and the at least ‘one brick’ thrown last evening, it may not have been aimed at officers after all… But today’s radio transmissions tell another story… One which had officers arriving geared up and prepared for more violence.
