LIGHTS & SIRENS: Hyannis man tried to outrun cops…
Top photo: Patrolman Jackson gets his man…
HYANNIS – At about 1:42am, Patrolman Spencer Jackson observed what he described as a gray sedan recklessly speeding and passing vehicles on Center Street.
The driver of the sedan allegedly took off when Jackson tried to initiate a traffic stop.
The “gray sedan” had a good jump on Jackson when he radioed he had someone failing to stop for him.
Sergeant Mark Cabral handled the call from dispatch, having all cars clear the airway and reminding Jackson to maintain lights and sirens.
Jackson updated his location as the chase entered the area of Locust Street.
Sergeant Cabral coordinated other cars by having them focus on specific streets as they converged on the fleeing driver.
Somewhere in the area of Baxter Road, Jackson lost sight of the vehicle. But thanks to the coordinated response and teamwork of the midnight shift, police had their suspect fairly well boxed in.
Things went quiet for several long minutes until Lieutenant Sonnabend noticed a BMW in the dirt parking area behind Thrifty Car Rental off Bearse Road.
Upon closer inspection, Sonnabend was fairly certain he had located the suspect’s vehicle and quickly radioed the registration number. The police were back in business…
Within moments, numerous officers in the area learned they were likely looking for a black male, approximately 5’6”, about 140 pounds, with dreadlocks…
According to radio chatter, officers also learned the suspect may also have a couple of open court cases… with one of the cases involving possession of cocain with intent to distribute.
About seven or eight blocks away, police stopped a man with dreadlocks who was out walking. The man reportedly told officers he didn’t know where his car was… or something to that effect.
The man was detained and eventually began to cooperate, allegedly admitting he was aware police were trying to stop him…
According to sources, the suspect didn’t go into too many specifics as to why he fled, only that he had been messing around and that he was wrong to try to outrun police.
Dale White, age 42, formally of Jamaica, now of Hyannis, was arrested and charged with Operating to Endanger, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Marked Lanes violations, and Speeding…

While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, police located the suspect’s cell phones and wallet.
Police also noticed the vehicle had a flat tire.
UPDATE ~ 6:25am: Police are still not entirely sure what caused the flat tire, but are investigating and photographing near the intersection of Locust Street and Spruce Street where the BMW may have struck something…
