Man comes home to screaming intruder… [Video]
Hyannis – Just after 3pm multiple Barnstable Police units responded to an address on Gosnold Street for an ongoing call with dispatch talking to a man who had just arrived home to find an intruder inside his house.
Dispatch told responding officers the intruder was giving the home owner a hard time and they could hear him screaming in the background.
The intruder had just fled on foot when the first officer arrived.
Police were looking for a tall black male wearing a dark stalking cap… it was believed he may have fled towards the beach.
Initial drive-by searches of the area were fruitless.
A work crew in the area of Keyes Beach said they had not seen anyone fitting the description.
Officers continued to dig deeper and backtracked for a more thorough look.
Due to the rapid response and coverage, the man still had to be in the general area.
Patrolman Cronin instinctively focused on an area at the end of Sea Street where a path cuts through sand dunes and beach grass towards the beach…
… moments later Cronin’s barely discernible portable radio faintly broke squelch revealing the suspect was heading along the sand towards Keyes Beach. (Barnstable Police still needs a better radio system… but I digress… click here to read my thoughts on that subject.)
Additional officers converged on the area, but Cronin already had the suspect in custody.
The entire search lasted no more than 20 minutes.
The suspect was transported back to the scene on Gosnold Street where he was identified as the intruder who had entered the home.
The suspect will be charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime with Intent to Commit a Felony.

Sometime after 3:15pm, a woman drew the attention of security after she allegedly stole several items from the CVS on North Street.
Security followed as the female left the store. Police were also notified.
While being followed the woman took out a pocket knife and began to waive it around according to police sources...
Police placed the woman into custody on Stevens Street in the area of the Ford dealership...
The stolen items where recovered and she was transported back to police headquarters where she is likely facing shoplifting charges and possible charges related to waiving the knife around.
[Police were extremely busy this evening with many arrests and were unable to provide additional arrest information at this time...]
Also, it's important to note that the police respond to the CVS on North Street just about every day -- usually 2 to 3 times a day -- for disturbances and shoplifters.
Earlier today store security and police needed to indefinitely trespass another unwelcomed 49-year-old female because she has a history of causing problems there...
