MASHPEE – A driver is under arrest after police and firefighters received a call about a man passed out behind the wheel.
According to radio traffic, at around 4:00 a.m., Sunday morning – 2/21/21 – Mashpee first responders received a call about an unconscious man in vehicle in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot, blocking one of their delivery trucks. Dunkin Donuts employees tried to wake him up, but to no avail. But at some point, the driver rallied and regained consciousness prior to first responders arriving on scene.
Out of concern for the driver’s well being, police officers quickly began searching for a red vehicle with Maine plates. The vehicle was last seen traveling north on Great Neck Road. Within minutes, a Mashpee patrolman reported that the vehicle had just crashed on Meetinghouse Road.
The driver was evaluated by rescue but was not transported to the hospital.
The driver appeared to be unsteady on his feet during field sobriety testing. He was placed under arrest on the suspicion he may have been Operating Under the Influence, according to radio transmissions.
