Mashpee Woman Accused of $13K Fraudulent Return Scam at Aubuchon Hardware
SANDWICH, MASSACHUSETTS – A former Aubuchon Hardware employee in Sandwich has been arrested after authorities say she orchestrated a $13,000 fraudulent return scheme over just 36 days.
Heather Wood, of Mashpee, allegedly processed 35 fake returns while working at the store, funneling more than $13,000 in credits to her own credit cards, the Sandwich Police Department said in a statement. Store management fired her after spotting suspicious activity and alerted Sandwich police on July 15.
Following an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Wood with Larceny by Single Scheme Over $1,200 and False Creation or Use of a Sales Receipt. She was taken into custody without incident Tuesday while working at another hardware store in Centerville.
