BARNSTABLE – The Dangerousness Hearings for Mayhem suspects Terry Burdick and Rochelle Wood have been postponed – again – until the court can find an appropriate Superior Court certified public defender agreeable to Mr. Burdick, after a motion was allowed at the beginning of Monday’s proceedings…
… while Rochelle Wood’s attorney stated they were ready to go forward, but the court decided both dangerousness hearings would be best heard at the same time.
The Dangerous Hearings for both suspects are now scheduled to continue this coming Friday at 2:00 pm…
………..
The victim of last week’s brutal attack was finally able to appear in court yesterday and HN had a chance to speak with her. One side of the 45-year-old woman’s face remained completely black and blue, partially black and blue on the other, and especially dark and discolored around both eye sockets. HN was told the victim suffered an orbital eye socket fracture, and that a separate part of the medial wall, the bony plate behind her eye, was also fractured. The victim’s injuries reportedly will require ongoing treatment and surgeries…
Although yesterday’s proceedings were unable to resolve the question of dangerousness, HN did have time to look into Terry Burdick’s past court records and found one recent 2015 case where he was convicted and sentenced on two violent charges, Strangulation and A&B on his then 23-year-old girlfriend of about 2 years.
According to a police report in Burdick’s file, on June 3, 2015, at about 7:12 am, Burdick called rescue to his girlfriend’s residence on Oak Neck Road in Hyannis, stating she possibly had a broken leg and broken ribs…
… and that he had no idea how it happened.
When Barnstable Police Patrolman Christopher Botsford arrived he met medics and the victim in the back of an ambulance. The victim was crying, stating Burdick had beaten her, and medics informed Patrolman Botsford that Burdick had already left the scene.
At Cape Cod Hospital, Patrolman Botsford learned Burdick and his battered girlfriend did not live together… and that Burdick had called her the night before at about 11:00 pm stating he wanted to hang out. The girlfriend reportedly then met Burdick on Oak Neck Road where the couple smoked marijuana.
After smoking weed, Burdick suddenly began yelling at his girlfriend, accusing her of going to bars with other men.
The 23-year-old girlfriend denied seeing other men and it was then Burdick reportedly grabbed the young woman and threw her to the ground.
While his girlfriend screamed, Burdick reportedly dragged her down a path into the rear of the Oak Grove Cemetery, where he reportedly picked her up and threw her down next to a tombstone. According to an October 2015 article written by Haven Orecchio-Egresitz, published in the Cape Cod times, Burdick then “pressed her face against a tombstone.” The police report continues with Burdick saying, “pick a place where you want to die.”
Burdick wasn’t finished – he began kicking his girlfriend in the ribs, and jumping up and down on her legs while also punching her, according to the police report.
The horrified girlfriend tried yelling for help when Burdick “put both hands around her neck and started choking her.” The young woman blacked out and when she came around Burdick was there waiting, saying that if she told anyone he would kill her and also kill her whole family, including her 3-year-old child.
Burdick then reportedly brought his battered girlfriend back to her home, where she told her mother she was in fear for her loved ones’ lives. She was deathly terrified and unable to bring herself call police. The young woman suffered severe bruising and was clutching her stomach when Patrolman Botsford first met with her in the emergency room. Her legs were bruised and in severe pain. Her bruises were already turning dark shades of purple…
Burdick of course denied the allegations when police later tracked him down and arrested him across town during a traffic stop in the parking lot of a hot wing joint…
……….
Burdick was sentenced to two and a half years on the Strangulation count, along with another two and a half years on the A&B of his girlfriend. According to court documents, Burdick had a credit of 126 days already served. And according to the Cape Cod Times article, “The sentences were suspended and Burdick [was] to remain on probation until October 5, 2018.”
Burdick’s probation for the Strangulation and Assault & Battery of his then 23-year-old “girlfriend” ended just 12 days prior to these new allegations of Battery and Mayhem causing the serious bodily injury of a 45-year-old West Yarmouth woman…
This Friday, October 26, 2018, at 2:00 pm, the Dangerousness Hearings of Mayhem suspects Terry Burdick and Rochelle “Ro” Wood are scheduled to address the question as to whether either of the two suspects pose a danger to public….
HN will provide updates as they become available.
- All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law…

The following HN Video highlights Monday’s court proceedings…
HN NOTE: Again, and with all due respect to the court, it’s important to note that the sound system inside the Barnstable District Courtroom seems to be substandard and observers have difficulty hearing what is going on. It may simply be because the lawyers tend not to speak into the microphones… or it could be the sound equipment needs to be updated. As was again the case on yesterday, reporters attending the court proceedings had difficulty hearing what was being said… and not being able to hear makes the task of accurately reporting back to the public much more difficult. Certain parts of the following HN Video may therefore be difficult to hear… sorry about that…
