OWNER OF ABANDONED, CRASHED VEHICLE: “I wasn’t driving the car… and I’ll put that on my daughter’s soul.”
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] – Around 5 a.m., when officers finally caught up to the owner of the abandoned crashed vehicle, who just so happened to be out strolling the vicinity two hours after the crash, he told them, “I honestly don’t know what’s going on, sir, to be quite honest with you.” He then went on to emphasize his position that not only was he not driving, but he also wasn’t even inside his vehicle when it crashed! And he was not really sure who was driving, because his Audi is often borrowed by others, says he. And he ultimately punctuated his hard-to-believe tale with, “I wasn’t driving the car… and I’ll put that on my daughter’s soul.” (My goodness, I was actually having a hard time seeing it his way until he said that!)
And so there it is, we’re looking at a genuine “unsolved mystery,” like the ones on the television set!
Good Lord, since we’re on the topic of “honesty,” I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this one!
Eric Randall, the young man in the above HN photo, has been having a rough year. In fact, it was just this past September when Randall was arrested after some sort of bizarre (alleged) boyfriend/girlfriend road rage “dogfight.” Where Randall ended up being charged with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, and Marked Lanes violations. There’s an HN Video of the entire investigation. CLICK HERE to read and watch, “MALE ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGED BOYFRIEND/ GIRLFRIEND ROAD RAGE DOGFIGHT…”
Like I said, I’m honestly not sure where to begin. So, let’s begin at the beginning. Shall we?
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around 3 a.m. this morning, Barnstable and State Police, along with West Barnstable Firefighters, rushed to the area of Route 132 and Route 6 for a crash on the westbound on-ramp. While en route, officers and firefighters were advised of possible injuries and were told the driver had fled the scene. As you will see in the following HN Video, Eric Randall’s crashed Audi was found lodged deep inside a thickly wooded area. Nobody was inside the vehicle and officers began searching the area. Apparently, police had received a phone call just after the crash from a cellphone number recognized as belonging to Eric Randall, according to radio transmissions. At the time of the call, Randall’s cellphone number “pinged” on the other side of Route 6, near the Knights Inn Hotel on Shootflying Hill Road, in Centerville, according to radio transmissions. A Barnstable Police Patrolman then located fresh footprints in the snow, in the vicinity of Route 6 and Shootflying Hill Road. Officers were concerned the driver may have been badly injured and, as you will hear in the following HN Video, spent two hours following the fresh footprints. To make a long story short, after two hours of following and searching, including speaking with a taxi driver who had mysteriously been called to pick someone up in the area, officers finally located Randall, the crashed vehicle’s owner, out walking along the Service Road, about half a mile away from the crash. Randall denies driving or even being inside the vehicle found crashed into the woods. When asked why he was out walking in the area, Randall told officers he had just finished paying a social visit to one of his cousins who lives somewhere nearby. It was about 5 a.m. and state police had nothing to charge Randall with because there was no property damage (other than several torn-up scrub pines) and at the time they encountered the owner, he was not suspected of being intoxicated. Besides, Randall gave officers an account of his earlier whereabouts, on his daughter’s soul nonetheless!
Good enough for me! 😉
Poor Eric Randall, his Audi is a wreck! He has no idea who was driving it. Somebody also called police on his phone. His cousin wasn’t nice enough to give him a ride to wherever he was walking to along the Service Road early this morning (two hours after the nearby crash). This guy cannot catch a break!
