BIZARRE HYTOWN PHOTO: Man defecating on Main Street… right in front of rush hour traffic!

HYANNIS – The above photo was taken at around 4pm Monday, September 15…
According to the photographer, it shows a man using a fence to defecate right in front of busy Main Street traffic in the East End near the intersection with Camp Street (right across the street from where the old Delahunt offices use to be).
HyTown residents are all too familiar with the daily frustrations, sights, and problems of having to deal with the region’s homeless population, along with the ever-growing number of welfare programs and their clients.
We have accommodated Massachusetts’ less fortunate for decades. Greater Hyannis communities count on Hyannis to shoulder the responsibility of the region’s homeless population… but for Hyannis residents, that designation comes at a price.
Parents raising children in the downtown area should be aware of the dangers presented by the homeless. It’s not unusual for the homeless to defecate outside in the wooded homeless camps and other more discrete public places. It is unusual, however, to see the homeless doing this sort of thing right out in front of busy downtown rush hour traffic.
Parents who have young children need to be aware of the health risks that lurk in the homeless camps and hangouts near the downtown area. Having raised a child in downtown Hyannis myself, I never felt safe taking my eyes off my daughter for one single second. It wasn’t unusual to see some homeless person urinating in public, and violence between drunks and street urchins was a common occurrence, sometimes happening directly in front of our home. I remember telling my child about all the many hazards and health risks, from disease, violence, discarded hypodermic needles, pedophiles, and sexual predators. I also remember how unfair it was for her.
When I post an image like this, some will cope with it in a humorous way by resigning themselves to statements like, “that’s typical Hyannis…” or “only in HyTown… ha ha…” etc.
But when all the humorous coping mechanisms wear off, we are still faced with the filthy and unfair responsibility of having to shoulder the burden of dealing with everyone else’s homeless problems.
Hyannis has been the Cape’s dumping ground for decades… literally.
