POLICE ACTIVITY: Man Arrested on Warrants During Investigation of Alleged Shooting Threat at Cape Cod Mall [HN Photos]
“Dancin’ in the streets of Hyannis
We were getting pretty good at the game
People stood in line and didn’t seem to mind
You know everybody knew our name
Livin’ on rock-n-roll music
Never worry ’bout the things we were missing
When we got up on the stage and got ready to play
Everybody’d listen”

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – Barnstable Police responded in unmarked cruisers to the Cape Cod Mall late Thursday afternoon after a female (her age currently unknown to HN) called reporting that she had been assaulted and threatened by two males.
The female told police the two males — described as possibly Hispanic and wearing black sweatshirts and baggy sweatpants — threatened to shoot her. Frightened, she hid inside a bathroom while the males fled on foot in an unknown direction inside the mall. She reported never seeing a firearm, according to police radio transmissions.
Officers arrived quickly, interviewed the female at a store inside the mall, and took a detailed report. While driving along the front of the mall afterward, officers spotted three suspicious males dressed entirely in black standing in a service alley normally restricted to mall employees.
Hyannis News observed the three males quickly turn and enter the mall through a service door after seeing uniformed officers inside the passing unmarked police cruisers. Officers immediately spun around, entered the alley, and followed them inside on foot.
Within minutes, officers located the three males and identified them. They were 20, 19, and 16-years-old. The 19-year-old was identified as Cody Hammond of Hyannis. A warrant check revealed Hammond had two active default warrants — one for disorderly conduct and one for assault and battery. He was taken into custody and held overnight pending his arraignment on the warrant charges.
The investigation into the alleged shooting threat remains active. At this time, it is unclear whether the three males encountered in the service alley are connected to the original incident. [DEVELOPING]
HN Reminder: The initial details contained in the above report are based on radio transmissions and information from police sources. The defendant is presumed to be innocent on all potential and existing charges – unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
