RBMG: Cape Cod Summer…

HN NOTES: Today’s HyTown Vignette is brought to you by the Red & Black Music Group (RBMG). Nick Snowden sent along the following music video which has been receiving thousands of views on Facebook in the span of just a couple days! The video is entitled “Where I Stay” Cape Cod Summer.

The RBMG is comprised of several young men who wanted to make a positive music video about the good times they’ve experienced in HyTown and the Greater Hyannis area.

HN had the opportunity to meet Nick Snowden, he’s a hard working family man with two sons, ages 3 and 5. Nick grew up in Hyannis and it’s refreshing to see how much he cares about the direction of our community.

HN would love to see HyTown change its image, once again becoming the logical choice for hard working families. It’s inspiring whenever I see a positive young dad trying to make it here.

Cape Cod is a challenging place for any parent, especially young dads.

In short, every person in government needs to switch their priorities to facilitating a community which mainly focuses on attracting hard working families. The message should first and foremost always be about what our local government is doing to help those people who want to work and live here in peace.

Productive hard working families should always come first. But right now, Hyannis government resources focus mainly on other populations and problems, often to the unhealthy detriment of the greater community.

Here’s a hint for local government: Positive change means attracting real jobs and job rich industries to the Cape. It means cutting all the peripheral government BS and getting right to the heart of the matter, good jobs. (For example, having a town level board on the issue of “Global Warming” is pure peripheral government BS… government needs to have a laser-like focus on priority issues that matter to families…)

(I actually once lived in a city which completely turned itself around and became one of the top rated small family cities in Canada… they did it by making the attraction of job rich industries their primary focus… amazingly, most of the other problems slowly disappeared on their own… but more on that later.)

A good job is one of the best and most effective recovery programs that ever existed. Good jobs are not created by government, but in most cases exist only when government steps out of the way. In other words, government needs to facilitate a safe and welcoming 24/7 environment for new business. But the main job of Cape government should always be to stay out of the way!

Once having facilitated and broadcast the message that “we’re open for business,” especially for job rich industries, making it much easier for businesses to actually come and stay, there will be huge improvements in appearances and lifestyles. Cape Cod government then needs to immediately remove itself from the equation and get the hell out of the way!

One of the most – if not the most – detrimental influences on our local economy has been the existence of too much useless government and overregulation. Irresponsible government has created the current conditions where drugs and crime have taken over. Yes, it’s their fault!

Local government charters need to be completely rewritten in a way which puts the power back in the hands of the voters… that way one can point at an administration and say that they either did or did not do their job. Town managers or mayors who fail will be voted out by the entire population, not just a small panel of town councilors, each with their own special interests and agendas. Those who succeed will stay…

… but, once again, I digress… check out this video, they did a great job and it’s so exciting to see young people trying to express the brighter side of life here! The music style is very different than what I grew up with, but the hearts and good intentions behind it are very much the same…
