OSTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN photo notes] – A serious crash in Osterville Wednesday evening left one person injured and prompted the closure of Route 28. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Route 28 and Osterville/West Barnstable Road, where a van left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Barnstable Police and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters responded to calls reporting the crash. According to initial reports, emergency personnel evaluated two individuals at the scene, with one being transported to Cape Cod Hospital under a trauma alert. It remains unclear whether a second vehicle was damaged in the collision. (HN was only able to see one vehicle, a heavily damaged work van…. and HN will update this report here with additional details.)
The crash caused significant disruptions, as downed wires forced authorities to completely shut down Route 28 in the area. Traffic was rerouted while Barnstable Police began their investigation into the cause of the accident.
